Jamaica Rise up was written mostly in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
I was the best man in the wedding of one of my best friends from childhood. I told him “I wouldn’t miss it to save my life. A Jewish kid marrying a gorgeous Jamaican queen- this is history making.”
Another childhood friend and I flew together. This just happened to be my second trip to Jamaica so I decided I wasn’t going to take the tourist route this time around. My plans were to simply enjoy my friends and relax. Yet, the arrival flight didn’t go as planned. One evening I received a phone call from a good friend of mine who had come to Atlanta for a work assignment. He told me where he was staying and we made plans to meet later that evening.
I finally made my way to his hotel room and we greeted each other with the usual hand shake and hug. “What’s going on with you man? Peace Out of War was written on the evening of March -19-2003.
This was the evening of the preemptive strikes on the City of Baghdad, Iraq.
My dinner sat in front of me untouched. I was in awe of what I was witnessing.
