Biography

Russel Kirkman, AuthorAt the age of 24, Russell Kirkman suffered respiratory failure that nearly cost him his life. He briefly tells the story of blacking out on the gurney as he was being rushed down the halls of Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. That is the last he remembers of being in the hospital at that time. His next experience constantly reminds him of how close he came to not being here in this life. It is what he refers to as “The Light Experience” while zipping through a dark vacuum at the speed of sound through intervals of white light toward a radiant light.

Upon his return the next day, Russell made a promise to God, that when he became healthy enough, his mission would be to find his “Calling.” That promise has become the diving force of his life. He states, “I was summoned by God to redefine the minds of the mis-defined. To see for the sightless, speak for the voiceless and interpret for the deaf.”

Russell’s, often humorous, self-help book Maybe It’s Me remained on MSN’s book list for three years never receiving less then four and a half stars out of a possible five. Written by one of the most unconventional thinkers of our time, Russell contends Maybe It’s Me was written as a blueprint to assist his readers to navigate past life’s dilemmas with more ease. He believes it is the stresses and struggles of everyday life that impedes individuals from seeking or achieving their true “Calling” in life.

In 2008, Russell released an EP, titled after his book Maybe It’s Me? with a total of five songs which he calls Moto-Sodo music (Motivational Soul Music). Russell believes music is God’s language and is sacred. It is for this reason most of his music and lyrics are created to focus on his two greatest passions, “Save our Children” and “World Peace.”

It is Russell’s affinity for college students and the college atmosphere that can be attributed to maintaining a youthful mind. As a college counselor and recruiter in the public and private sector for the past twenty-two years, he views colleges and universities as incubators for greatness. He sees the students as eggs waiting to be hatched and released into the world. This scenario is the basis for his enjoyment of speaking at colleges and universities to college students. Some of the schools he has edutained are Spellman College, PolyTech, Herzing College, Chattahoochee  College as well  as businesses such as Bell South, Xerox, Extended Families of  Georgia, DFAC.
